譯文農(nóng)家很少有空閑的月份，五月到來人們更加繁忙。夜里刮起了南風(fēng)，覆蓋田壟的小麥已成熟發(fā)黃。婦女擔(dān)著用竹籃盛的飯，小孩子提著用壺裝的飲料，相互跟隨給在田里勞動(dòng)的人送去飯食，收割小麥的男子都在南岡。雙腳受地面的熱氣熏蒸，脊梁受炎熱的陽光烘烤。精疲力竭仿佛不知道天氣炎熱，只是希望夏日天再長一些。又見一位貧苦婦女，抱著孩兒站在割麥者身旁，右手拿著從田里拾取的麥穗，左臂上懸掛著一個(gè)破筐。聽她望著別人說話，聽到的人都為她感到悲傷。因?yàn)槔U租納稅賣盡家田，只好拾些麥穗填飽饑腸。現(xiàn)在我有什么功勞德行，一直不從事農(nóng)業(yè)生產(chǎn)。一年領(lǐng)取薪俸三百石米，到了年底還有余糧。想到這些內(nèi)心感到非常慚愧，整日也不能忘卻。

英譯Farmers are seldom free during the whole year, and especially busy in May.When night came south winds blow, covering the fields were wheat that is yellow and rippened.Women carried baskets full of food, and children carried pots of soup and water.Following eachother they set out after men who worked in the fields and delievers the food, men who reaped wheats in Nangang.Their feet steamed of the heat from the ground, their backs baked under the hot sunlight.Their toil and tiredness ignored them from the heat, but what they cherished was the limited days of summer.Then a poor women, who held a child and stood by one side.Her right hand was picking up left-over wheat spikes, while a broken basket hang onto her left shoulder.Hearing what she told, makes * sad.They seld all their houses and fields to fulfill the taxes, and now their hunger can only be fulfilled upon these pieces of grains of wheat.Yet what have I gave to God that got me out of these agricultural life.300 denier of salaries per year, with rice and food that cannot be finished over the year.Thinking of this made my heart thump with shame, a shame that clings on until every end of the day.

注釋（1）刈（yì）：割。(本詩為古體詩)（2）隴 ：同“壟”，田埂，這里泛指麥地！（3）覆隴黃：小麥黃熟時(shí)遮蓋住了田埂。覆：蓋。（4）婦姑：媳婦和婆婆，這里泛指婦女。（5）荷（hè）簞（dān）食（sì）：用竹籃盛的飯。荷：背負(fù),肩擔(dān)。簞食：裝在竹籃里的飯食。(簞食固定讀dān sì[如簞食壺漿,簞食瓢飲],指裝在竹籃里的飯食,食不單獨(dú)作名詞講)（6）童稚攜壺漿：小孩子提著用壺裝的湯與水。漿：古代一種略帶酸味的飲品，有時(shí)也可以指米酒或湯。（7）餉（xiǎng）田：給在田里勞動(dòng)的人送飯。（8）丁壯：青壯年男子。（9）南岡：地名。（10）足蒸暑土氣，背灼炎天光：雙腳受地面熱氣熏蒸，脊背受炎熱的陽光烘烤。（11）但：只。（12）惜：盼望。（13）其：指代正在勞動(dòng)的農(nóng)民。（14）秉（bǐng）遺穗：拿著從田里拾取的麥穗。秉，拿著。遺，遺失（15）懸：挎著。（16）敝（bì)筐：破籃子。（17）相顧言：互相訴說。顧：視，看。（18）輸稅(shuì)：繳納租稅。（19）曾（zēng)不事農(nóng)桑：一直不從事農(nóng)業(yè)生產(chǎn)。曾：竟然。事：從事。農(nóng)桑：農(nóng)耕和蠶桑。（20）吏(lì)祿(lù)三百石（dàn）：當(dāng)時(shí)白居易任周至縣尉，一年的薪俸大約是三百石米。石：古代容量單位，十斗為一石。（古時(shí)候念dàn，現(xiàn)在念shí）（21）歲晏（yàn）：年底。晏，晚。（22）念此：想到這些。（23）盡日：整天、終天。
